Doppio Zero makes wishes come true this festive season

Following the success of last year’s Wish Tree campaign, Doppio Zero will once again embark on its initiative to spread the festive spirit and make wishes come true this December.

The Wish Tree campaign offers patrons and staff the opportunity to give back to those less fortunate in the simplest of ways.

Doppio Zero restaurants are transformed with ‘Wish Trees’ and every tree is decorated with hanging wish tags. The wish tags replace ordinary Christmas decorations and represent a child from either Thuto Bokamoso Primary School or Laurensia Primary School both based in Randfontein.

Each tag is specific to one child, including their name, age and gender.

Customers and staff wanting to partake are encouraged to show their kindness by selecting a tag from the wish tree and make up a gift box for that particular child.

“Our goal is to provide the children with a mix of practical items that are so badly needed together with a small toy to bring a smile to their faces,” says co-founder of Doppio Zero, Paul Christie.

Doppio Zero provides some guidelines of what items to include in the gift box: practical items such as tooth paste and a toothbrush, soap and cloth, clothing, educational supplies and some treats like sweets and a toy. The suggested value of each gift box is R100. Donors are encouraged to decorate gift boxes with drawings or stickers and label the lid with the completed wish tag.

Gift boxes need to be brought back to the restaurant before 20 December 2011 to enable the Doppio Zero team to make wishes come true. The gifts will be distributed to the children at a special handover day at the two schools, attended by pupils and selected Doppio Zero staff.

Donors will receive a Doppio Zero keychain for their kindness, which entitles them, on presentation of the keychain, to a free cappuccino with every meal purchased for an entire month.

Last year, the generosity of patrons and staff ensured that 550 children received gifts.

“This campaign brightened the lives of so many children last year so we didn’t hesitate for a second to repeat it again this year. Our customers have so much to give and this small gesture goes a long way in bringing happiness to so many children,” says Christie.
