Jacaranda 94.2 proudly presents the SA Tattoo - local audiences are rarely treated to entertainment events on such a spectacular scale!
The SA Tattoo is back in September for a number of performances – of which only four will be open to the general public. So, despite the huge seating capacity of Montecasino’s Outdoor Event Area, seats are bound to sell out – as they’ve done in the last two years.

The South African Tattoo, one of the most anticipated events on the South African entertainment calendar, proudly showcases South Africa’s unique mix of traditions and cultures, in addition to welcoming the jaw-dropping talents of top performers and groups from all over the world.

Massed bands, drumming and drill teams, dance groups, stunt teams; it’s a staggering, breath-taking whirl and skirl of music, light, and movement – and one that unfailingly thrills family audiences year after year.

Although the 130-year-old concept has its roots in the United Kingdom, tattoos now form a part of the annual entertainment diet of cities as diverse as Moscow, Berlin, Oslo, Toronto, Quebec, Basel, Las Vegas, Sydney and Dubai. And, of course London and Edinburgh – the latter city being the home of the most famous annual tattoo in the world.

The 90 minute, open-air spectacular that is the SA Tattoo is uniquely structured to showcase 10 to 12 different groups, performing individual sets of approximately 5 to 12 minutes each. Audiences of up to 3 800 per show can count on an international cast of over 500 performers to provide thrills and spectacle on a scale rarely witnessed in South Africa.

The SA Tattoo features new and original performances at every year’s show, and, following the general trend of tattoos around the world, the cast of the SA Tattoo offers a proud reflection of our country’s diverse cultures, traditions and ethnicities. The Scottish touch is almost a prerequisite for such events, and this year is no exception, with a stirring contribution from Massed Pipes and Drums and a spirited troupe of Highland dancers.

Local outfits wowing the crowd will include the Code Red Drum Corps, Via Volcano Pantsula Dance Group, and the SAPS’s National Band and Special Task Force. New Zealand’s Lochiel Marching Team is one of the first overseas confirmations, but this is just a fraction of the massed wall of entertainment and thrills that’s coming your way!

The SA Tattoo Organising Team is continuously on the search for top local and international performers and groups to showcase on the huge Montecasino stage. Over the past couple of years, local audiences have been exposed to dazzling performances from Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, the USA, Burundi and Italy.

These masters have thrilled our audiences with their displays of rhythm, timing, strength and precision, and have, in turn, returned home with wonderful memories of, and a love for, South Africa.
