Security Alert
There is a serious increase in the spate of criminal activity both within and on the borders of our precinct. Linden for instance experienced 10 House Robberies from midnight on Friday to 11.59pm on Sunday evening.
There has also been an increase in the Trio Crimes in the precinct with two house breakings on Friday, a high jacking and attempted high jacking and a house robbery in Craighall Park.
Two suspects in the Craighall Park robbery in which the family was held hostage at gun point were apprehended and a third allegedly shot himself after being traced to Alexandria.
The security firm ‘Johannesburg Security’ is allegedly involved as they erected the security fencing on the property that was robbed and the suspect that shot himself was allegedly an employee of the company.
Schroder, Fairbridge and Scully roads in Roosevelt Park are hotspot areas with an increase of the criminal activity in that area.
28 Schroder was the scene of a House Robbery and the suspects were using hand guns. This particular premises has been targeted in the past and the security provider for the area that allegedly has two vehicles patrolling there was requested to seek police assistance and that the operations manager should increase the patrols if necessary.
Most incidents in this area occur between 5pm and midnight. Other security providers have also been requested to increase the visibility in this area, even though it is not their client base.
An important point that was raised at this briefing was that very often vehicles are seen to be parked on the verge of the road with one occupant apparently doing nothing. This is not the case he is probably waiting for a signal from the other members that everything is ready and he can come and collect them or may even be a lookout for a criminal act in progress in the vicinity.
If you spot such a vehicle please record the registration number it may be useful and help us identifying the suspects, if a crime is committed in the area.
Cable theft is on the increase in the Emmarentia area and especially in Tana Road where a green 4x4 is suspected of being involved. The stolen cable recovered by CSS was handed to Chris from City Power.
A business in one of the buildings on the Corner of Olifants Road and 5th Avenue is suspected of dealing in the trade of illegal cigarettes and will be investigated.
As regards the liquor licence and unlawful business practice issues, in the Greenside area, letters have been drafted which will be handed to the owners/managers in this week informing them that they are in contravention of the liquor legislation. Captain Knoetse who has attended an amended liquor licence application workshop will be the key in this regard and our understanding of the issues involved.
We are determined to put a stop to illegal activities in this area especially on Gleneagles Road and change the public’s perception that the police are doing nothing to assist.
Security providers that promise support during operations are please asked to supply that support as the police are counting on your assistance and if for some reason the support is not available after it was committed please have the courtesy to call the Col. timeously so that he can make other arrangements.
“I would like to commend CSS for their excellent work with the police as well as 24/7 for their excellence in service delivery and support. These two Security providers are to be seen as examples of how a security partnership is supposed to operate”, said Costa Vranas.
No vehicle lookouts were supplied at today’s meeting.
