Pik-it-up strike continues and rubbish becomes a health hazard - We have a solution

There is no indication when the strike will end and with the upcoming Easter Holidays there will be no rubbish collection on those Fridays either, which will compound the matter. Since we already have a two-week backlog in our area, we are looking at further weeks of non-collection. This is a health hazard. The dumps are not accepting any more rubbish.

The solution:
The only way to clear the trash on a wider scale is by using a company called Waste Giant, who the GRA has been in contact with regarding a solution. Their proposal, based on a similar initiative currently running in Craighall and Craighall Park, is as follows:
They require participation of a minimum of 100 houses.
Costs are:
R50 per wheelie bin
R10 per black bag
They will start with 100 houses. First come, first served.
Please email info@lovegreenside.org with your name and address.

As soon as 100 residents have confirmed, the initiative will go ahead. A date and estimated time will be provided to you. On the day, the Waste Giant bakkie will hoot to collect your rubbish and payment must be made immediately directly to them. If no one is home, please leave your money with a neighbour.

We don't have email addresses for everyone. Please help spread the word to your neighbours.

Urgent Notice:
We urge you to keep your wheelie bins inside your gates. There is a risk that striking workers may come into the suburbs and trash bins that are on the streets.

Follow the Greenside Residents Association website to keep track of news affecting our suburb www.lovegreenside.org

Clean. Green. Safe

Sunday 17 April is Rubbish Removal Day

Waste Giant will begin rubbish collection on Sunday, the trucks are orange. They will move through the area between 8am and 2pm on Sunday.
They will drive slowly down the roads and streets, hooting at intervals - so just keep an eye (and ear) out on the road.

Waste Giant will drive through the streets where houses have confirmed their participation. The GRA cannot confirm that Waste Giant will drive through all streets.

Have your cash ready. No cash, no collection.

Costs are:
R50 per wheelie bin
R10 per black bag

If you're going out, please leave your money with a neighbour. It is a good idea to make contact with your neighbours anyway to inform them of the initiative.

Waste Giant has not given us an indication of the route they will follow. Furthermore, the GRA is not responsible for Waste Giant's adherence to times, etc.
