Motorcyclist critically injured in Linden crash

A motorcyclist is fighting for his life in the Netcare Milpark Hospital after his bike struck a car on Tana Road near the Crocodile Road junction in Linden, Randburg this afternoon, March 21, 2011.
The cause of the accident remains unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.

“Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the rider had been travelling on Tana Road when he struck a car which had emerged from a driveway. The motorcycle slammed into the side of the car and the rider was thrown over the vehicle, landing approximately ten meters from the initial point of impact”, said Jeff Wicks of Netcare 911.

He was in a critical condition, having gone into cardiac arrest. Netcare911 advanced life support paramedics immediately initiated CPR.

The man was intubated and placed on a manual ventilator and medics worked fervently to revive him. His condition improved slightly and he was transported by ambulance to the specialist medical facility for the lifesaving care that he required.

The road was closed to traffic while emergency service personnel cleared the scene.

The man’s condition remains critical. The occupants of the car were uninjured in the smash.

Linden motorcyclist succumbs in hospital

Update: A sixty two-year-old motorcyclist critically injured in Randburg this afternoon has succumbed to his injuries in Hospital.
The man had sustained severe spinal, chest and lower limb trauma.
