Greenside High Afrikaans teachers Heila van Wyk, Maretha Ferreira, Tersia Eloff, Charlene van Rooyen and Etrecia Greeff.

Greenside High School’s Afrikaans department was awarded third place, nationally, for Excellence in Secondary Teaching. The department received a certificate and a trophy from the Mr Matabane, the district director.

Five members of Greenside High School’s Afrikaans Department entered for the National Teachers Award. Firstly a motivation by the group, as well as the school, had to be submitted.

Thereafter the group was personally interviewed by a panel of officials at Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Two weeks later an invitation was received to attend the Gala Evening at the Indaba Hotel.

The main motivation for the National Teachers Awards is not only to encourage, but also to honour teachers who walk that extra mile and so inspire learners and fellow colleagues to strive for only the best in education.
